Week 2

Hello everybody, this week I am going to talk you about the best Mexican movies in my opinion. Let’s start it then. (These movies are also my favorites of Mexican cinema).

I must clarify that the order of the movies is not based on the quality of the same. And probably I’m going to skip over many good films.

La Ley de Herodes

La Ley de Herodes is a 1999 Mexican satirical black comedy political film directed by Luis Estrada it is a political satire of corruption in Mexico and the long-ruling PRI party, it was notably the first Mexican film to criticize the PRI explicitly by name and carried some controversy and interference from the Mexican government because of it.

El Infierno

El Infierno is a 2010 Mexican black comedy crime drama film directed by Luis Estrada and following the line of La ley de Herodes, the film is a political satire, but this time instead of corruption the main issue of La Ley de Herodes, this film is about drug trafficking, organized crime, and the Mexican Drug War. It has been a critical and commercial success in Mexico.

El Crimen del Padre Amaro

This is a 2002 Mexican-Spanish film directed by Carlos Carrera. It is very loosely based on the novel O Crime do Padre Amaro (1875) by 19th-century Portuguese writer José Maria de Eça de Queiroz. The film starred Gael García Bernal, Ana Claudia Talancón and Sancho Gracia. At the 75th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

Amores Perros

Amores Perros is a 2000 Mexican psychological drama film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (in his feature directorial debut) and written by Guillermo Arriaga, based on a story by them both. It makes use of the multi-narrative hyperlink cinema style and features an ensemble cast. The film is constructed as a triptych: it contains three distinct stories connected by a car accident in Mexico City. The stories center on a teenager in the slums who gets involved in dogfighting; a model who seriously injures her leg; and a mysterious hitman. The stories are linked in various ways, including the presence of dogs in each of them.

Matando Cabos

This is a special case because I like so much this movie, but I don’t think that this movie is the best of the Mexican cinema, is better than almost all the newest Mexican movies that’s for sure, anyway I decided to put this movie on the list. Matando Cabos is a 2004 Mexican crime comedy film directed by Alejandro Lozano. The film was one of the most highly anticipated Mexican movies of all time, mainly due to its high budget and the amount of money put into the action scenes such as the car chase through the Estadio Azteca.

That’s all for this week, now It’s all up to you, put in the comments your favorite Mexican movie.
